The recent International CES Convention at the Las Vegas Convention put forward some very exciting opportunities, setting the tone for the year in terms of technological advances.

This year’s convention took place between 6th and 9th January, and welcomed prestigious guests such as AOL, Bosch and Intel Corporation. It was a particularly exciting location to host the event this year, especially given the new plans for Las Vegas which are set to bring in a whole other target market – namely, sports fans.

With the upcoming Las Vegas Arena set for an opening date of 2016, fans of not just technology but also sports betting will likely have flocked to this year’s CES event. While sites like Betway Sports Betting are pandering to one group of fans, the event was truly exciting for technology buffs, who are now all talking about the following products set to hit the market.

Nvidia Tegra XI

Dubbed a “superchip” by the microchip producer, the latest release from Nvidia boasts a 256 processor core and eight CPU cores. Representatives at CES claimed the chip has “more power than a supercomputer the size of a suburban family home from 15 years ago.” The chip will be used in consoles, automobile on-board computers and more.

SkySpecs Guardian Drone

After some particularly bad press when a drone flew into one diner’s nose, it’s hard to be impressed by any more drones coming our way in 2015. However, SkySpecs managed to turn a few heads when its latest drone flew into the TechCrunch Hardware Battlefield contest. Manufacturers claim it is able to avoid humans – perfect for avoiding any mishaps.

Siemens Smart Hearing Aids

CES wasn’t just about toys this year – it also served to help improve people’s lives, including a ‘smart’ hearing aid which has been promised to “adapt to different conditions.” Representatives at Siemens also said that users could integrate the hearing aids with iOS and Android apps.

MakerBot’s 3D Printing Materials

3D printing came a long way in 2014, and now, MakerBot is taking it one step further with its new materials. While the printing company did not launch any new printers, it did release new materials for its customers to print with, including filaments of limestone, iron and wood to provide a great variety of looks.

Volkswagen’s Golf R Touch Concept

This little piece of technology posed an interesting debate at CES: is it more distracting for drivers or is it a true help? The concept car dashboard features hand-tracking movements via a 3D camera to adjust volume, lighting and other features without touching the dashboard. Decadent? Yes. Necessary? Probably not? Cool? Definitely.
