How To Stop People Spying On Your Web Usage

Let’€™s get the obvious out of the way. If you are looking for apps that can stop the government from spying on you then first get over yourself because you are not that important and secondly if they want to then they will. The Pentagon gets over one million hacker attempts per day with most of them coming from China and they are able to kick away most of them (except for that British guy who was looking for proof of aliens).

So, if the government has the tools to stop 1 million hacker attempts per day then they are going to be able to get past an app you downloaded or a technique you are using to try and stop them. If On the other hand you are just looking for ways to stop other people following your web usage then you may have more luck.

For the record

Just so you know–it is not illegal for an employer to spy on you when using their equipment unless they are somehow forcing you to sign into your personal accounts. Also, it is not illegal for you to spy on your child using equipment that you bought for them but the things you do with the information may be illegal.

Use VPN

By all accounts the idea that it is impossible to track your web browsing because you are using a VPN service is not true, but it does take some sophisticated monitoring technology that the likes of MI6 in Britain may use, so if you are planning on hiding your web browsing from your parents or partner then there is little chance of them knowing (or tracking) where you have been if you are using VPN. Though, if there is spy ware on your computer then it will show up that you use VPN however it will not show a browsing history.

Use a firewall

This is not just to stop people spying on your internet usage but to also stop them spying on you at all. There may not be a need to view the stream of data going to and from your Internet browser if spy ware is installed on your computer. There may not even be a need for spy ware, suffice it to say that a hacker or online malcontent may be able to see what you are up to. If this is the case then there is no need to watch your online activity because the hacker can figure out what you are up to though your keystrokes.

Even the little security things such as how your password characters turn to stars as you type them in will mean nothing. A firewall is really a must and is second to nothing with the possible comment that maybe a good firewall is required. A good firewall is going to stop all but the best from spying on what you are doing online, and frankly the best are hardly likely to be interested in your website viewing unless there is money to be made from knowing.

A firewall only allows certain pieces of information to pass between your network and the computer. A good firewall will stop websites trying to monitor what you are doing with thing such as cookies.

Scan your computer for spy ware

There are now a lot of different types and many of them may be installed remotely. This means a person may know your IP address or email address and use it to install a piece of software that monitors your online activities. It is harder for people to do this if you have a good antivirus/anti-malware program. The other thing you may consider is that someone in your house has installed spy ware manually on your computer whilst you were out. That is why it is a good idea to check your computer for spy ware on a routine occasion.

Scan for viruses

A virus is just as much of a danger to your online security as malware or a hacker. A virus tends to be created in order to make a weakness in your computer. The dangerous viruses that cause big problems are either created by programming enthusiasts with too much time on their hands, or by antivirus sellers so that they may sell the solution to the viruses.

There are quite a few ways that a virus may enter your system so it is up to you to get an antivirus program that protects again online threats and immediate threats. There are some very good programs out there such as Norton Internet protection. Do not put too much faith in the programs that you download and that instantly find a batch of viruses because in those cases it is often the download of the antivirus program that put them there (it’s a sneaky trick).

Yes, Spyware is very harmful for our sensitive information. And also make sure you are not vulnerable to the latest hearbleed bug.
