5 Must-Have Apps for Visiting Tokyo

When you visit a city as tech-friendly and modern as Tokyo, there’s no excuse to not be prepared with the most up-to-the-minute apps to help you get around. There are even some apps that have been designed especially to help you make the most of your trip to the city. Here is a selection of some of our favourites to get you exploring Tokyo like a local!

Tokyo Metro Subway

The busiest underground subway system in the world, the Tokyo Metro carries around 7 million users a day through its 179 stations on 9 lines. With all those people milling around, it can be tricky to navigate but download the Tokyo Metro Subway app and you’€™ll be travelling like a native in no time at all. The app includes a map and a route planner, as well as station information so you’€™ll always know where you’€™re going!

Find!TOKYO

Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area in the world, so no one is going to blame you if you get a bit lost! However, if getting lost is not top of your priorities, the Find!TOKYO app will demystify the streets of the capital in one simple step. With a directory of restaurants, parks and hotels, as well as detailed maps of train stations and shopping streets, it’s like having a Tokyo Guide right in your pocket. What’€™s more, once downloaded, it will work without the internet!

Japanese App

However long you’€™re heading to Tokyo for, having a basic knowledge of the language is sure to help you out no end. The Japanese App is a great way to get started and provides an excellent introduction to Japanese for complete beginners. With its simple and easy to use design, carry it around with you and refer to it any time you need a little helping hand.

Real Sushi

Does ordering sushi leave you feeling overwhelmed, even when you love the taste? Don’€™t be shy! Most people don’€™t know what’€™s what, and most people are too afraid to ask. The Real Sushi app is a visual guide, giving you a descriptive rundown of every type of dish you could come across and the images mean you can match up what you see to what you eat! There’€™s even a pronunciation guide – so you’€™ll never stumble over ordering again. Delicious!

Expedia App

When you’re on a holiday, a business trip or a backpacking adventure, having instant access to flight and hotel information is undeniably useful and important. The best app we’ve come across is by Expedia, meaning you can make booking and browse the latest deals right from your phone. If you’€™re on the hunt for the perfect hotel or if you still need to book your Tokyo flight, the Expedia app is the place to head.
