Glasses That Do More

Taking in new sights is much easier when we have the latest vision technology at our disposal.

From the vision correction options on offer at Optimax to high-spec contact lenses and glasses, scientists are taking the functionality of glasses into a whole other realm and slowly bridging the gap between fantasy and reality – one futuristic development at a time. Here’s how.

Google Glass

IT buffs are always on the lookout for the next big thing in the world of technology and while many imagine that this would come in the form of a shiny new tablet or intricate operating system, few could have expected that a pair of glasses could be so hotly anticipated by techies the world over.

Google Glass takes a pair of spectacles to a whole new level by featuring an inbuilt camera, display, touchpad, battery and microphone, with the display described as “the equivalent of a 25-inch high definition screen from eight feet away”, by the technology giant.

The best thing is the information displayed on Google Glass pops up in the upper right corner of the glasses so that your overall view is not disrupted.

Epson Moverio BT-100

Epson’s Moverio BT-100 glasses may lack some of the features of Google Glass, e.g. a display that is in the centre of your field of vision, but its array of technology still packs a punch. The model, which is already on sale (while Google Glass is only in development), offers a high resolution transparent display with Wi-Fi connections, giving you the chance to see 3D content layered over real-world images – perfect for gamers.

The device also comes with an android-powered portable controller, which allows users to shop and browse online, regardless of their environment.

1.3 Megapixel Spy Camera Sunglasses

For those who want to try their hand at being the next James Bond, these 1.3 Megapixel Spy camera sunglasses are a good place to start. As well as shielding your eyes from the sun, these glasses take 1.3 Megapixel photos; perfect for capturing a bandit in action.

Additional features allow you to listen to music with inbuilt ear buds and 4GB of onboard memory means you can snap away and sing along without worrying about exceeding the device’s capacity. Perfect for those with a keen interest in espionage, these glasses are the ultimate stealth tool.
