Top Security Apps For A BYOD Company

byod

As more and more companies start to turn to a “bring your own device” or BYOD philosophy, IT departments everywhere are losing sleep. This is because although BYOD does enable employees to work outside the office, it also comes with some serious security risks. As businesses aim to combat these threats and protect themselves they are turning to mobile applications. Here is a list of some of the top security apps available to protect your company against the risks presented by a BYOD model.

Divide

Divide is an application that is compatible with the Android operating system. As its name implies this app will “divide” or separate the user’s personal data from company data. Divide provides an encrypted and separate desktop for the user to access company data from. This separation of data helps protect against the threat of lost or stolen devices as sensitive information is stored on the encrypted desktop.

Filelocker

Filelocker also has a name that describes its main function. Filelocker is an app that enables the user to encrypt specific files on their mobile device. As you can imagine, this is a feature that can be especially useful for a BYOD company. Not only does Filelocker encrypt sensitive files, but it also hides them from view for extra security. As an added bonus, Filelocker will keep track of files that are unlocked and automatically re-lock them if the user neglects to do so.

Packetfence

Packetfence is a network access control tool that is ideal for any company employing a BYOD model. With a BYOD model there will be an increase in the number of devices attempting to join the company network and Packetfence makes it easy to maintain control over what can or cannot access that network. All devices can be registered through Packetfence and access will be given to only those devices that are registered. Packetfence makes it easy and seamless to control access, terminate access, identify violations, and control bandwidth usage.

These are just a few of the many applications available today. As the popularity of BYOD continues to grow, so too will the need for security and the development of mobile applications to provide that security. There are obvious benefits to the BYOD model such as increased productivity, but it also creates increased risks to security and these risks can be mitigated through the use of mobile applications like those listed here.
