Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter Review

The 85W MagSafe adapter comes from the genius of Apple technicians. The connector is quickly detached from the laptop when the cable experiences tension. This will make sense to people who have tangled or caught a hand or foot in a cable when a device is charging and accidentally jerked their laptop to the floor from a table.

Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter

If you are looking for an extra or replacement adapter for your 15″ or 17″ Macbook Pro to be used at your office or home, you definitely need this cutting-edge charging adapter from Apple.

  • The magnetic DC connector guarantees that the cable gets disconnected from your Macbook when it is subjected to unwarranted strain. By detaching from the laptop any unwanted weakening and fraying will be prevented. Most importantly if your laptop is perched on top of a table, by disconnecting from the laptop your Macbook will be saved from an unlucky plunge to the floor which could be lethal.
  • The magnetic connector also ensures that, the connection is secure and quick. The magnetic flux at the end of the adapter effectively guides the plug to the system’s charging port.
  • Smart notification: There is an LED located at the head of the connector which gives notification about the charging status. Amber light notifies that your laptop is charging and when the LED is solid green, it means the laptop if fully charged and you can disconnect the adapter from your Macbook.
  • The lithium polymer battery in your 15-inch and 17-inch Macbook can be charged while the computer is turned off, when you are using it or when it’s in sleep mode. It can also provide uninterrupted power to the machine, even if you wish to use your laptop without the battery.
  • Travel friendly form-factor: Apart from the small size and light weight, one thing that makes this adapter an ideal travel charge is the way you can wind the cable neatly around the adapter for easy storage in your laptop or travel bag.

The 85W Macbook Pro adapter is originally made for the Macbook 15-inch and 17-inch. However, according to the “best answers” on Apple’s official support site, the charger can be used with the Macbook 13″ and Macbook Air. Apparently, you can use higher watt Apple adapter to charge a device of lower watt (the laptop knows how much charge they need to take). But a lower watt charger cannot be used with a higher watt laptop.

The adapter has a minimalist design and looks sleek and beautiful like any other Apple product. Like many other Apple accessory, this also comes only in white. The adapter weighs 1.4 pounds. The dimension of product is 7.3″ x 6.1″ x 2.5″. The less weight and small dimension makes the Apple 85W Magsafe adapter the best travel charger for your Macbook Pro.

This charger can work as a great replacement for your MA357 as well as MA938 chargers.

You can also get an extension chord if you want to increase the length of the cable, you could buy an extension cable that can increase the length by 6 feet. This is sold separately and doesn’t come with the package.

I always get my feet caught up on my computer cables. There have been several times when I almost pulled my laptop off of the table. Great idea by Apple to make something that detaches like that. Gotta get me one.

This is one of those “why didn’t I think of that” solutions. It seems simple but it really is useful especially if your charging cables usually cover the walkways when plugged in. I myself have broken a laptop once when I accidentally tripped over its wire, pulling it down to the floor in the process.
