Software developers will benefit the most with an expected 30% growth. The bad news is that most IT companies will only interview around 1 in 20 people that submit a résumé and will probably only hire 1 in 10 people they interview. This means there could be as many as 200 people applying for the same job in IT. Clearly, it is essential for tech professionals to produce a killer résumé that lands them an interview and this is why we are providing some important résumé tips for tech jobs below.

Résumé is actually a French term that means ‘summary’ but IT professionals are notorious for creating lengthy applications when there is generally a two page limit. If you have been in IT for more than a decade, you could perhaps get away with a three page résumé. Otherwise, keep it short and remember that your résumé will be scanned rather than read. It is also important to acknowledge that some of your old experience will be obsolete so there is no real need to mention it.

Forget About Your Objective

Common résumé advice includes the addition of an objective at the start of the first page. This is completely unnecessary because quite frankly, the hiring company is less worried about what you want than what they want! The purpose of every résumé is to get an interview by showcasing the advantages of hiring you. Including an objective just marks you out as another applicant interested in themselves only without giving a second thought to the company they wish to work for.

The Importance Of Keywords

In the modern era, the first reader of your résumé is probably going to be a search application that will look for specific keywords pertaining to the task. Look at related job descriptions as well as the job you are after to get an idea as to what keywords need to be included. Use keywords, synonyms and acronyms in the technical skills section and the general body of the résumé in order to optimize the search.

Certifications

If you can avoid the typical tech professional résumé mistakes, you can climb the IT ladder and benefit from what looks to be a bright future in the industry.

    I agree, in today’s economy, it is tougher now to get a job. There are more qualified candidates, and only a few positions. At least in the old days, there was not as much competition.

    I agree to the point where you mention less detailing. I would like to add that it should have been less unwanted detailing. Many time we tend to give unnecessary details in our resume that make the employer get actually bored of reading. The resume should contain some good content that convinces him to hire you.

    That is what I think when it comes to your objective. Employers know that most of the people write fabricated objective & so they are less concerned about this. What is more important that you must show the real values that can easily tell your worth to the employers.
    I think, we need to edit our resume depending on the the company & your job there.
