Five Great Apps For First Time iPad Users

Have you just got your hands on the iPad? Well, if you have, then be warned that there are plenty of people who are going to envy you; but leave that aside and think for a moment…. You have got your hands on the iPad… it’s one of the best devices available on the market…. But how are you going to optimize its use?

If you want the best out of your iPad, you will need to download the best iPad apps; these are the kind of apps that leverage the full potential of the device’s features and functionality. Allow me to give you a list of five apps that will help get the best out of your iPad; and more than anything else out of its high resolution retina display.

Weather HD

If there is one kind of app that can showcase the iPad’s display in all its glory, it’s a weather app. Yes, I know, it’s not something that is very interesting, but you are going to use a weather app all the same, so why not use an app that makes optimum use of your iPad, one such app is Weather HD.  No, it’s not boring, and it is a visuals driven app, that brings to users a host of weather conditions. So, whether you want information on temperatures, humidity or wind, or any other information about the weather, Weather HD, gives it to you, in a manner that makes viewing weather related information, a real pleasure.

Users can opt to go for a weekly or hourly forecast, and get push notifications for weather updates for the cities that they have chosen. It’s a great app, and a must-try.

National Geographic

If you are a fan of this magazine, and most people are, you can get this on your iPad. What’s more, it will look amazing on your iPad, especially if it’s an iPad with Retina Display. All those pictures of wild animals, the great outdoors, and nature assume an almost lifelike quality when you are seeing them on your iPad.

There is no doubt that magazines like the National Geographic are a visual treat on the iPad, but the honest to goodness truth is that most magazines look good on the iPad. So, get your favorite magazines on it, pronto!!!

Instapaper

Old as they say is Gold, and this is the case with Instapaper. The app has been around for ages, but its value never depreciates. In fact, it keeps on getting more and more fans as it gets older. I am sure even you want an app that can help save a web page, so that you can access it later and go through it whenever you have the time. What’s more you want this web page to be available in a highly readable form, wherein the content appears clean, clear and has razor sharp edge.  This is what Instapaper for the iPad offers you.

GoodReader

The GoodReader is really good, it’s an exceptional PDF reader but it also helps you read MS Office documents. Txt files and even iWork’ 08/’09 documents, view high resolution images, and it even handles audio and video files. But more than that it also becomes your proverbial friend in need, as it allows you to highlight text, and even take notes. And did I mention free hand drawings (great for doodling), that it allows you to do? All in all an app that is both useful and fun to use. Great combination!

Angry Birds Star Wars

How can the birds that are angry at ‘piggies’ be left behind? But this time, there are no piggies Yes, the Angry Birds Star Wards HD app is something that you must have, but this time you have birds dressed up as Star Wars characters battling out against the ‘piggies’ that are on the Dark Side. The animations are superb and they are taken a few notches higher because of the iPad’s superior display, speed and overall functionality. So, download the app (it costs $4, totally worth the price in my opinion), take some time out, and gets started on your Star Wars adventure.

So, here they are, five of my favorite picks, for your iPad. These and many other apps out there will help you get your moneys worth out of your iPad. I am sure that you are doing that even now, but with these apps on your device, your levels of enjoyment will definitely go up.

I’m pretty sure that the next article which I’m coming up with in the next month, i.e “It’s the Time for Some Gaming Action – The Top 5 Free Games for your iPad” will have a good response as well.

I request to please do leave your feedback after you try out my suggestions.

Very good post, these are must have Apps because of their functionality, interface brilliance, or sheer entertainment factor. I think even Flipboard & Netflix are very essential.

Thanks for going through the article. However, one thing to keep in mind with Flipboard is that it limits the number of pane pages and saving pages for offline reading requires a third-party app. Though even years after debut, Flipboard remains the best iPad social-news app. Whereas Netflix offers a limited selection of movies and television shows. You can’t manage your DVD queue and you will only be able to search by title, not by actor or director. However Netflix has revamped the user interface, giving the app a far more streamlined and tablet-friendly layout.

Thanks for sharing Albert! I’m in the middle of downloading each of these apps right now! I can’t wait to try them out, especially when it comes to the National Geographic app. I’ve only had my iPad for a few weeks and so far my most used app is DISH Anywhere. I’m a TV junkie and I travel a lot for my job at DISH, so I love that the app lets me view all of my shows from home, live or from off my DVR, everywhere I go in the world. I like it for entertainment purposes, but I absolutely love the fact that I never have to worry about missing my shows even when I’m half way across the country. :)

I think angry birds should be taken out of the running. It’s a senseless game! Try 2Fuse or Temple Run 2 and you’ll enjoy the adrenaline rush.

Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts. However as per a recent update Verizon rates Angry Birds high marks for security, battery consumption and data usage. Moreover, it is in the process of revamping its apps in order to provide enhanced user experience. Let’s wait and watch what’s in-store for us.

I think I’d have to disagree on the Angry Birds. I mean there are a lot of better games. And that wouldn’t be my go-to game for a recommendation.
