Near Field Communication Technology: Beyond The Mobile Commerce Trend

The NFC technology adaptation can be leveraged into many sectors in the present times. This radio frequency based technology bestows easy life to the consumers from various walks of life. NFC as we all know it is hugely associated with mobile payments and retail industries. But, NFC is used beyond the mobility commerce application.

NFC finds itself very useful and adaptable in the following areas :

1. Social media: Virtual social world in the new kid in this decade. NFC’s security feature and this being a ‘complementary technology’ significantly influences the people on the social media to interact in a more effective way. The trending three NFC based social platforms are Getyoo, PhoobyBook and Poken enable the people to gather all the information from their contacts and social activity along with simultaneously being able to upload the same onto the internet.

2. Gaming & toys: This short range technology contributes unseen opportunities in the world of mobile gaming and video gaming too. Any post on the net with respect to gaming and toys asks you to rekindle your imagination to reach out to the NFC technology. The previous technology namely the QRCodes are heavily looked down upon by the gaming industry and is often described as annoying contrary to the NFC technology being praised as magical. Toys embracing the NFC not only amuse the kids but people of all ages too!

3. Product authentication: Counterfeiting of products is a common scenario in today’s brand world. NFC Stand alone NFC applications on the mobile devices can easily verify the authenticity of the products based on the Radio frequency identification methodology.

The near field communication is well nurtured by the mobile handset manufacturing companies as this technology is forecasted by the technology gurus as the future of e-commerce. Contactless transactions are now having an upper hand in the retail industries than the cashless transactions. NFC is also well received by the top credit card companies like Mastercard, Visa and other leading financial services corporations are working tirelessly to make NFC become a mainstream payment mode in the near future. I too see a lot of positive attitude of the retailers who are awaiting for the right NFC related payment methods which would cut them some real chunk of processing fee charged by the credit card companies. NFC will be extremely cost effective and secured transaction when compared to the other modes of payments.

Two of the advantages that NFC has over other wireless communications technologies are power efficiency, very important in mobile devices, and relative security, as third-party attacks on NFC devices would require the “hacker” to be in very close proximity of the target in order to access NFC-data exchanges. Chances are that, even if NFC is not 100% secure from third-party attacks, hackers won’t be able to get in between your mobile device and the other NFC device, since they’ll only be able to interact at around 4cm or less.

The NFC being a short range technology is a true blessing when it comes to unauthorized interference and many thanks to you Micheal for leaving a comment that is so informative.
      Cheers!

NFC has the competitive edge over its competitors owing to its power efficiency and the security it offers. A great technology that will go a long way in serving its niche.

That is right Fatima, NFC though not a recent technology and is as old as the Bluetooth but its application in the payment industry and for other wireless apps NFC has gained significance.

NFC is purely amazing! Poken based on the NFC is an enticing thing. The prohibition of access of the unrecognized individuals and spammers is one thing which is acting as the fundamental feature responsible for the popularity of NFC. Thanks Lakshmi for sharing this informative post.

Hey there Aayna, Poken is gaining significance with how it is using up NFC and creating a whole suite of products based on NFC. They aim on creating an end to end NFC-compliant platform that will specialize in collecting relevant digital info even when offline! Cool stuff isn’t it!
