Increasing The Battery Life Of Your Mobile Device

The rapid advancements in mobile technology have led to a peculiar problem. Better and more sophisticated mobile devices are being built as are highly engaging and advanced mobile apps, but it is increasingly being seen that most mobile devices become drained of their battery, in a very short span of time.

One of the reasons for this is that users are not able to manage the mobile apps on their devices in a manner that helps save battery life. Yes, it’s a given that mobile apps eat away at the battery life of a mobile device, therefore steps need to be taken by users to ensure that the apps on their device are not battery guzzlers.

Here are some things that can be done to limit the drain:

Monitoring Apps

There are plenty of times that I have forgotten to close apps that I was not using actively. For e.g. I sent a message and forgot to close the app. This is one of the many reasons why the life of the battery goes down. So, it’s advisable to monitor  the apps that are open and close them if you are not going to use them frequently. If you are using an iOS device this tip will come in handy because when you close an app in an iOS device it does not reboot in the background, something that happens on Android devices. If you are somebody who is using an Android device, it will be a good idea to completely uninstall an app if you are not actively using them, or they are just lying unused in your phone. This is a great way to save some battery life of your Android devices.

In App Advertising Takes Its Toll – Avoid it

If you have downloaded and installed a free version of a popular Android app, there is every chance that it has in app advertising – This is something that can eat up your battery life like nothing else can. So, the choice is between downloading a paid version of your app with a one time fee, or constantly facing the the problem of the battery conking out when you most need it.

Activating and Deactivating App Functions

There are plenty of apps that allow users to activate or deactivate in app functionalities. This is a great way of saving the much needed battery life. Take for the example the case of GPS , which is a great app  in itself, but you don’t want to use all its functionalities all the time. So, if you don’t want to use constant location detection, just disable it. To do this is simplicity itself. If you have an iOS device, all you need to do is make changes in the ‘location services’ in the settings; if you are using an Android device, you adjust ‘Running Services’ in your Settings options.

To Conclude

Let’s face it, if you are using an advanced mobile device like the smartphone, you are going to use sophisticated apps and if that is the case, the battery life is going to suffer. But, for now there is no way around it, apart from your managing your mobile apps effectively by using the tips mentioned here. It’s like an occupational hazard that you just can’t avoid.

If you don’t plan on using the battery for a month or more, store it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. Batteries tend to de-charge when not in use, so make sure you charge them again before using. The performance of any cell phone battery, however, no matter how properly cared for, usually diminishes after about a year. It is better to get your battery replaced then.

How about the idea of using an extended battery for a change? It’s really difficult to extend a smartphone’s battery life by going into power-efficiency mode.

Closing unused applications is important to save battery. Adjust the display and brightness and don’t overcharge cell phone and plug out chargers from sockets when phone not attached.

I generally keep the WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth capabilities on my phone off, and turn them on only while I need them. These drain the battery pretty quickly. I especially check my phone once at night before falling asleep to ensure that unnecessary apps and WiFi etc. are all closed, lest I should wake up in the morning with my phone battery conked out.
