5 Great Tech Solutions For Small Businesses

Running a small business often requires you to be able to compete with bigger businesses that have more resources. If you are going to be able to compete, technology will probably need to play a role in the process. Here are five great technology solutions that you may be able to use for your small business.

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is a technological advancement that makes it possible for you to access programs and software programs remotely instead of housing them on a computer’s memory. For example, you can use Google Docs from any computer that has Internet access. This gives you access to word processing software, a spreadsheet, presentation software and other programs that you would normally have to pay for. With cloud computing, you can also collaborate with other employees who are working on different computers.

Data Centers

Working with a data center like Digital Realty is another option that you may want to consider. With a data center, you pay for a piece of digital space. You can house your servers and other hardware at a data center, which will reduce the amount of space that you need to devote to this type of equipment in your place of business. The data center may have backup power sources and full-time IT specialists on staff at all times.

VoIP

With the help of VoIP phone systems, many small businesses have successfully managed to set up phone systems that sound just like that of bigger companies. This is a technology that utilizes Internet connections to place phone calls. This type of technology makes it possible to gain access to many advanced calling features. It also allows you to set up multiple business extensions even if you have only a small operation with a few employees.

Virtual Fax

Thanks to technology, you don’t even have to invest in a fax machine or a dedicated phone line for your business. With a virtual fax machine, you can send and receive faxes directly from your computer. You can simply scan a document that you want to fax and then send it through the computer. Any faxes received can go right to your email.

Telepresence

Telepresence is an advanced form of videoconferencing that makes it seem like you are in the same room with someone for a business meeting. Using HD cameras and displays and other technology, it really improves on traditional videoconferencing.

By using some of these tools, you may be able to take your small business to the next level and start gaining market share on the big boys in your industry. Just don’t forget to focus on what your business does best along the way.

From all presented above, I use cloud computing and VoIP, but I am interested in virtual fax also. Can you give us a service provider for virtual fax?

I’m not that familiar with cloud computing but when you said “just like google docs”, I’m starting to get a bit knowledge of it. Same as the others, I’m interested with the virtual fax, its like having your fax machine online. Every faxed document will be directed to the computer? Is that correct? if so, Can you recommend a good virtual fax software? Thanks!

I would like to add some more points. If you have to convert an unusual file format and don’t have the necessary software, or if you’re working from a different computer, online file conversion tools can make the process fairly quick and painless. There are services to convert documents, audio/video files and even graphics to a new file format.

A very instructive blog! The five techniques that you have mentioned are some of the best ways using which a small or even a medium sized business enterprise can operate effectively. Cloud computing is the next level platform that I believe will save you from expensive software licenses plus, you are saved from the tiring task of backing-up data every time you create a new document. Example of Google docs is the perfect and simplistic way of explaining the concept of ‘Cloud computing’ to even a layman.
