To be honest, I haven’t been thinking too much about these surveys, whether they were paid surveys or not. I think that the participation rate (amount of people that are filling in the survey) must be much higher with the online surveys than the “old-fashioned” interview survey method.

But at the same time there are more and more who believe/understand that surveys are not at all acurate and shouldn’t be concluded as facts or statistics of “facts” but just as a non binding indicator of peoples preferences and opinions.

I think that there is a lot of value with paid surveys. There is a lot that can be learned about your target market. Especially if you are marketing a new product.
Doesn’t paying someone to take a survey skew the results? I remember trying this back in the late 90s, getting paid to take surveys, and remember trying to fly through them as quickly as I could.
I have to say that, as someone who takes online surveys occasionally, the way these companies are going about it is bad. A few years ago, the majority of the big names paid in cash in return for your time. Now, they have mostly all reverted to paying in redeemable points. No one likes this and I know that I have personally stopped using sites that pay in redeemable points because I want the cash in return for my time. I know I’m not alone there, either.
And yes, many people do fly through the surveys because most of them are too long and too repetitive. After about eight minutes of redundant questions, you begin to get impatient with the whole process. I think that by making their surveys shorter and more the point, most of these companies would get more accurate responses.
