Facebook Fast Approaching 1 Billion Registered Users

socialbakerslogoRegistered Facebook users are set to hit the 1 billion mark by 2012. Presently, the world’s number one social networking site already has about 700 million users, according to statistics site Social Bakers. The report which also highlights growth trends in various countries show that Brazil has got the highest rate of new Facebook users with up to 1.9 million new additions in May alone. Other fast growing social networking countries include the likes of Indonesia, the Philippines, Mexico and Argentina.

Overall, the United States still has the most number of users i.e. 149 million (19 million from California), which stands as almost half of its population. Since September 2009, Facebook has successfully managed to maintain a growth rate of around 20 million new worldwide users each month. In the first quarter of this year, users jumped from 585 million to over 665 million – 20 million more users than expected.

    Hi there,
so far Facebook has managed to attract 700 million global users, but the trend definitely is clear. If facebook would hit the 1 Billion point, it would mean that almost every one out of six human beings has a facebook account on this planet.

I wonder why American’s is not on the list and don’t often use facebook. 🙂

We can’t deny the fact that most people in the world do use facebook, even 5 year old kids have facebook nowadays. I think one day 3 out of 5 of people use facebook already.

Facebook is taking over the internet, they are gunning for google and i can see it happening. They already get more traffic than google so maybe they should start there own search engine to rival google wouldnt that be fun lol

Even the news that facebook plans to shut down is a big shock because this networking site has already made a place in the hearts of the users and not just a platform to advertise and market one’s products and services. Facebook is not just about keeping touch with friends anymore it has introduced more updates and people from different profession is finding its new improved features even more user friendly and more efficient. Many people still use twitter but if more people are using it only means the social networking site is more preferred.

Facebook is indeed getting bigger and bigger! There are lots of online businesses which use Facebook as their tool in selling and getting more traffic. 🙂 What will happen if Facebook will have its own search engine? That would definitely become a great competition with Google! 😀

You are right here. If facebook launches a search engine too, that will be a great challenge for google.

Could it be that the United States isn’t growing in number of users because of Google +? 😉

Those numbers are not accurate. There are so many fake accounts. For many reasons.
And also people with morer than 1 account. and people who started a new account and couldn’t be bothered to delete the old one.

I don’t think it is possible to get accurate numbers on this.

Hard to believe any social media site can approach and even eclipse this barrier. Seems like just four years ago that FB was only available to students and faculty with a school email. Wait… it was.

While it’s hard to tell whether the account belongs to one person.. This data can still show that the interests of people are growing in facebook.. :p

I’m really happy for Facebook. They deserve it. I doubt that Google+ will outrun Facebook. They’ve been on a silent war lately and i heard that Facebook offers unparalleled opportunities to Google engineers.
