Thanks for the comment Admin! That is your real name right? Okay just kidding. One thing you can do is wait for special offers to pop up in stores, it’s a hard thing to do but you can wait until Black Friday when all of the really great deals are offered.

You can also try looking around the net for free smartphone offers. Just be careful, some are legit and some are not. Just check around the site a bit and see what there all about.

For the longest time, I held out on buying a smart phone. I think I was the last of my friends to actually buy one. I ended up with a higher-end smart phone that has been satisfactory thus far. It was really hard to choose, though, because there are so many brands and operating systems. With such a struggle and everyone integrating to the smart phone era (because who doesn’t love Facebook all the time!), how do you know which type is best for you?

I guess you would find that not everyone agrees with you on Facebook. However, you can always know which one to buy by comparing their functionalities. You will find occasional differences in style, power, memory, display, camera, price, etc.

I love my smart phone. I can’t imagine a life without one, which is funny, because two years I was living that way. The only problem I have with them is their battery life. I guess I can see the draining power of carrying around a mini computer, but you would think that the manufacturers would do something about that. What would you say is the most reliable brand?

It depends on what carrier your with. If your with Sprint, the LG Optimus S is pretty good, T-Mobile’s Galaxy S 4G is good, and the new Atirx 4G from AT&T seems to be getting some attention.

Battery life does seem to be a major problem with today’s smartphones, but there slowly getting better about it. Maybe in the future we’ll all have to carry additional batter packs with us, ha ha.

      Thanks for the comment!

I totally agree with every statement in this article. When I first got my smartphone I was amazed. It could do everything: internet, GPS, music, apps, like Google goggles…ect. I can’t Imagen living without it now. Soon, I believe that smart phones and tablets will dominate the computer market.

OK, so I am in the non-smartphone club though my wife has a Blackberry which I have used to read the NY Times on occasion. I have a really old phone that I use just as a portable pay phone and nothing else. It is off 99% of the time. In your list, and in items added by other commenters, there was only a single thing mentioned that I could see useful FOR ME in my life. Being able to look up a recipe while I am at the store. See I have been wanting to make soup from scratch all winter but I only remember when I am at the store. If I remembered when I was at home, I would research a few and print out a grocery list.

That is it. Portable music device? No. Portable game device? No. Even my need for a GPS is extremely limited. I am sorry, but not everyone needs a smartphone. Especially those of us who LOVE being unplugged!

Hi Gene, thanks for the comment. I guess your the kind of person that likes being unplugged lol. That’s cool. Allot of people are the same way, and your right about not everybody needing a smartphone in the world, but I believe most people would benefit from having one.

True saying Gene – they are people out there who would rather be unplugged. However, that is not the only reason why one may choose not to have a smartphone. For example, I wouldn’t particularly say I am one of those who love being uplugged, however, I do not own a smartphone myself. The reason? I’m not sure, just haven’t found the right one yet. Lol.

I recently purchased a Nokia X6 16 GB, well its my first smart phone since I have to buy it from my own pocket, and I’ll have to say that it has sped up things for me. I can check mails, download music, update my status in a knick of time. However, with more advancements hopping in like a built in phone projector or a scanning system, things will get real easy for a guy like me. And I hope there are a lots more ‘like me’ out there.

Hi Shorya from gadgets. I think the Nokia X6 looks pretty sleek, and I really like the big screen on it. I don’t know how many people would use a built in projector on there phones, it sounds kinda funny to me, then again manufacturers are already making 3D smartphones.

  13. Recent and the previous year was completely good for smart phone manufacturing companies specially for HTC and Blackberry. All around the globe people admired HTC Desire and Blackberry Torch. In spite the key elements you mentioned above there is still something else that appeals customers a lot which is the factor of applications, There are countless awesome and extremely user friendly applications available for smart phones.

I constantly use my smartphone (traveling, hiking, grocery shopping, etc.) for many of the things I do. The biggest issue I have is that the battery life only lasts a few hours. Otherwise, it is amazing what I can do from the small device.
