Clothes that monitor the psychological states, heart rate and temperature of wearers so as to assist them in coping with stress could soon be available. According to the BBC, the garments will be connected to a database which will analyse the generated data in order to determine the wearers emotional state.

As part of an artistic project called Wearable Absence developed by Barbara Layne and Janis Jefferies and presented at the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Montreal, the clothes will be made of textiles woven with various wireless sensors that can track various types of biological markers such as temperature, heart rate, breathing and galvanic skin response. The information received will be transferred to a web-based database. The results will be interpreted and send media, in the form of songs, words and images on LED display and speakers (built in the hood) in the clothes to attempt to calm or offer emotional support to the wearer.

The simple display can handle small images and scrolling text while the speakers will be able to replay music, sounds or play recorder messages from friends or family.

This plan will be consummated with a high five, a trip to Trader Joes, and the purchase of a soccer jersey that will be worn, on average, twice a decade.
